TECHNOLOGY

  • 12ml Version: Dosage in 1ml increments. Dosage range: 1ml to 12mL
  • 6ml Version: Dosage in 0.5 or 1ml increments. Dosage range: 1ml to 6mL
  • Suitable for liquids of various viscosities
  • Audible click to indicate index position
  • Integrated visual indicators
  • Child Proof – Locking Tab (12ml only)
Filling and Priming:

There are 2 options regarding pre-priming the device.

  1. Sell Product with Dr Doser fully pre-primed up to the nozzle, ready to use.
    • Apply Doser unit to pre filled bottle, pre-prime Dr Doser unit via Vacuum.
    • This method allows for a greater liquid volume of product, as it utilises the internal volume of Doser unit (208ml – 15ml = 193ml)
  2. Sell Product with Dr Doser needing to be Primed by the end user before first use only.
a. Apply Doser unit to pre filled bottle.

It is now upon Austech to work with a filling/priming technician to understand how Doser will be primed on a production line. We anticipate that as each unit is applied, the same ‘arm’ will incorporate a Vacuum that draws the liquid up through the device until it reaches the nozzle. Where a sensor will automatically shut off the vacuum.

Operation:

These devices utilise the same technology in different ways, hence;

  • the 6ml is operated by rotating the nozzle head counter clockwise relative to the bottle.
  • the 12ml is operated by rotating a collar at the top of the bottle, relative to the bottle.

To dose the bottle should be in an upright position, the locking tab on the 12ml must be clicked upwards, then a dose can be selected by rotating counter clockwise the collar of the 12ml, or the nozzle head of the 6ml. Each quarter turn adds one increment (0.5 or 1ml) of liquid to the dose. The dispensing tip must then be attached to the nozzle, this opens the nozzle valves which acts as a safety mechanism. The dose can then be dispensed by pressed downwards on the nozzle head. By act of dispensing, the device has been reset to zero. The can the ‘dial up’ another dose, or the dispensing

Dispensing tip:

Redesigned to resemble a child’s dummy, a finger grip area has been added to make this part easier to use. Designed to penetrate the front nozzle valve, this should only be residue left on the tip after it is removed. Fixing the issue of residue left on the nozzle itself.

DESIGN

  • 6ml first prototype
Made of 7 main injections moulded parts, 2 smaller injections moulded parts and 2 existingly available valves from mini valve.
  • It is a simpler design, made of fewer parts, that should use less material and be cheaper to manufacture.
  • Both devices operate by syphoning liquid through a straw that hits the bottom of the bottle, this straw
  • The 6ml fits any standard 28mm glass or polycarbonate bottle threads.
  • The 12ml has been designed to fit custom designed neck and hence bottle, that allows for the larger size 12ml device.

Design restrictions:
  • Neither version is currently able to be ‘dialled’ backwards. This could be explored in the future if desired.
  • There will be up to 2% of the total volume of liquid that will remain in the bottle
Safety:
  • Removes a human element of error, safest form of dosing yet.
  • Accuracy, the user can be assured they are getting the correct dose they need.
  • For both versions, once applied to the bottle the Dr. Doser device cannot be removed from the bottle.
  • The dispensing tip must be attached to dispense a dose, otherwise the nozzle cannot be pushed down.
Testing:
  • We have only performed in house testing on 3D printed versions of the 12ml and 6ml.
Our results indicate it is more accurate than using existing syringes.
  • Only once have we undertaken qualitative end user acceptance testing at a major Melbourne Hospital. The testing was conducted on a panel of dispensary pharmacists and healthcare professionals.

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS

  • Beverage / Alcohol dispense.
  • Agricultural Chemicals.
  • Precision dispense of laboratory reagents.
  • Large paints and pigments producers.
  • Hospital pharmacies / Aged Care dispensaries.
